Will I need a consultant to set up my payroll?
No. When you first install Intercode Payroll, most of your payroll setup will be done automatically. You can perform any further customisation quickly and easily yourself, without the need for a consultant.
Will I need to undergo user training to learn how to use Intercode Payroll?
No. Intercode Payroll is very intuitive, making it extremely easy to use. This is one of the biggest benefits of using Intercode Payroll – there are no hidden costs for consulting and training, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership.
Is Intercode Payroll a multi-user system?
No (and yes). Intercode Payroll allows only one user to work on any given employer file (i.e.: company) at a time. However, since each employers’ information is kept in a separate employer file, you can have multiple users working on different employer files at the same time – you can just not have more than one user working on the same employer file at the same time.
Can I run Intercode Payroll over a network?
Yes, but it’s not recommended. Locating your data files on a network drive while the software is installed on your local hard drive means that the entire data file has to be copied over the network to your computer’s working memory each time Intercode Payroll is opened, and then has to be saved to the network location again when Intercode Payroll is closed. This almost always has a negative impact on system performance.
If the goal is to share data files between users, we recommend that you locate the data files on your local hard drive, but in a folder that is automatically synchronised to a cloud folder (e.g.: OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox) that is accessible to all users instead. In this way the data files are still stored in a central location (i.e.: the cloud folder) where they can be accessed by other users, but synchronised copies of the files are still kept on your local hard drive as well, which will speed up access to those files considerably.
Can I run the payrolls of more than one company using Intercode Payroll?
Yes. If you have a bureau license you can create an unlimited number of separate employer files. Since Intercode Payroll stores each companies’ information in its own separate employer file, the number of employer files you can create is limited only by the amount of hard disk space you have available.
If I run the payrolls of more than one company, do I need an employee license to cater for the total number of employees across all companies?
No. Your employee license determines the maximum number of employees you can have in any one employer file, so you only need a license with an employee limit that caters for your single largest company.
Example: If you run the payrolls of 50 different employers and the largest of those employers has 19 employees, you can purchase a 20-employee license which will allow you to load up to 20 employees in each of your 50 employer files.
Can I upgrade (or downgrade) my employee license at a later stage?
Yes. You can upgrade your license to accommodate more employees at any time. You will only pay the difference between the old and new license fees, calculated pro rata on the number of months remaining on your license term. Increases to employee limits made within three months of the end of your license term will not be charged.
You can also purchase additional license activations at any point during your license term. The cost of additional license activations will also be calculated pro rata on the number of months remaining on your license term. Additional activations purchased within three months of the end of your license term will not be charged.
You can of course also downgrade your license to a lower employee limit or fewer license activations at any time, but these changes will only take effect when your annual license renewed. Downgrading your license to a lower employee limit or fewer license activations prior to the end of your license term will not result in a pro rata refund.
Can I run Intercode Payroll on Apple Mac OS?
No. Intercode Payroll was designed to be used with Microsoft’s Windows operating systems (Windows 200 or later) and will not run on Apple MacOS natively.
In order to run Intercode Payroll on an Apple computer you would first have to install dual boot software (such as Bootcamp) to allow you to install and boot into Microsoft Windows on the Apple computer. Once you’ve booted into Windows Intercode Payroll should run fine.
It is also possible to get Intercode Payroll to run inside of Apple MacOS using a Windows emulator (such as Wine), but this can be prone to glitches (your milage may vary). Do this at your own risk.
